Robotic Swimming How can I show my friend that there is more to life?
A recent dramatic accident left my best friend with a full robotic leg and has taken her away from what she loves. Competitive swimming. She's been on a team for 13 years, and quitting would destroy her! I hate seeing her depressed, and I'm afraid she'll commit suicide. She already said, "I wish the accident killed me instead of leaving me like this." Help! And please be serious this is really bad.
Don't be afraid to cry along with her.
It is sad.
You tell her that what has happened is very sad, but you don't know what you'd do without her.
You tell her that you'd rather you have her with a robotic leg than to not have her at all.
Remind her why you love her and why you treasure her as your best friend.
Get her outside in a park for fresh air. Buy her ice cream. Play some music to jam to.
Get her into hobbies.Tell her about the Special Olympics. People that have limits but are capable to do extraordinary things.Tell her not to give up.
Encourage to Study the Bible more. There's Scriptures that provides comfort.
That soon God's Kingdom will take place on earth and that those who are lame or crippled or have limitations will be restored to perfect health.Go to the Phone Book and look up Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.Or go to the website www.watchtower.org and go for the Bible education program.
It's free and it's full of encouragement.Your friend can be around people who will give her hope and love. Try it what else ideas are there?
Hope all goes well.
Best Wishes my friend

Belgian pop rockers The Names carved a niche in the 1980s with their sole album SWIMMING, augmented here by singles and B-sides.Liner Note Author: James Nice. The Names' Swimming isn't the sharpest arrow in infamous producer Martin Hannett's quiver, and the Belgian group indeed wallowed in the obscurity that journalist Jon Savage claimed they didn't deserve, but the record still fares rather well as a second-tier post-punk record. Starting off with a relatively upbeat first side and eventually drifting into a not exactly inventive morass of lumpen tempos and a rather off-putting level of mopey meandering (a sequencing scheme conceived by the producer), it certainly isn't the most listener-friendly record of its era. Like a number of bands that favored their rhythm sections and keyboard dressing over guitar pyrotechnics and over-emotive vocals, the Names truly come to life when they find a sticky groove capable of scaling tall buildings and allow it to take center stage ("Life By the Sea," "Discovery"). Otherwise, the songs risk losing their tether and dissipate. Reissued in 1991 as Swimming + Singles, the attentive archivists at Factory Benelux tacked on "Calcutta," "Nightshift," and "The Astronaut," a trio of decent to great singles that add significant value to the overall package. Along with another key 7" release that can be found on the Spectators of Life compilation, the bonus tracks show that the Names were much better at the singles game. The Factory-issued "Nightshift," a nocturnally glum tune that somehow manages to glisten in a manner similar to Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart," stands as one of the Names' standout moments, if not their absolute best. And don't miss the B-side, "I Wish I Could Speak Your Language," which impressively mimics the "no midrange" features of PiL's Metal Box with deep lows and piercing highs, along with a Lydon-unlike romantic lyric. (Les Temps Modernes reissued the reissue in 2000.) ~ Andy Kellman

The date of November 22, 1963, will forever be engraved in the hearts and minds of all Americans, but the events of that horrible day speak to a broader underlying question in light of the controversy to follow: had he lived and been reelected in 1964, how would John F. Kennedy have handled foreign policy in Vietnam? Americans will never have a definitive answer, of course, but in the documentary Virtual JFK: Vietnam If Kennedy Had Lived, director Koji Masutani re-introduces this question and explores potential outcomes in light of counterfactuals, what-ifs, and proposed scenarios. Masutani draws heavily from the events that did transpire in Kennedy's presidency to hone in on a pattern of decision-making evident throughout his career, via his responses to such events as East Berlin and the Cuban Missile Crisis, and uses this to make predictions about Kennedy's response to Vietnam. On many levels, Masutani directed this film as a very deliberate choice at the time of the American Iraqi War (on the eve of the 2008 presidential election) to demonstrate that a nation's commander in chief will dramatically influence the direction and general well-being of a country's future. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

By dismissing the commonly held beliefs of the post-political era, Zizek mobilizes a universal truth so powerful that it can be used to address a wide variety of topics ranging from Santa Claus to democracy. Now, for the first time ever, home viewers can find out just what it takes to become a great thinker in the 21st century as the Welcome to the Desert of the Real author peels back the various layers of reality to explore the many forms that belief takes in Western society. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
