Battery Irobot Do you think this is possible future for robots?
Remember how nothing in Jetsons is like today. In a decade we will be able to create designed from scratch singe cells. Some of them for example feed on waste and produce protein for example. Do you think they'll end up mixing together biology and robotics. As opposed to iRobot guys, robots will be made of some parts flesh, some metal. For example they'd have a stomach that would digest corn to power it's muscles as opposed to having heady electric batteries.
When I was young, we had many sci-fi television and cartoon shows. I remember believing with all my heart that by the year 2000 we would have Moon bases. I believed that buildings, homes, and vehicles would be ultra high tech and streamlined.
Then year after year went by and the only thing that changed were the technical graphics of movies. Electric vehicles were taken away from anyone who had a lease and they were ordered destroyed by the government.
When the Space Shuttle came along, we were promised three to four launchings PER MONTH. Suddenly, that number dropped to three or four per year.
I am now almost 50 and the world has not changed that much since the 1960's except for the obvious computer age.
My car still gets a guzzling 18 miles to a gallon of gasoline.
I still wear jeans and a shirt. And the only difference is that there is a dying trend to wear your pants down to your penis so girls can see the color of your underwear.
I eat the same foods and they still get cooked on an updated stove. Water comes out of the tap and I drink it out of a glass.
I know what it is like to imagine and dream when you are young. But allow yourself the option that perhaps these things will not come to pass in a decade or even in your lifetime. This way, you will not feel disappointed when the future knocks at your door and it looks much like today.
2010 is at our doorstep. As a child, this year was almost unfathomable when we imagined the world we would be living in. None of these dreams have come to pass. And I truly believe that the years 2020 and 2030 will be no different. In the real world, progress and technology never keep pace with your dreams or wishes. Should I be alive in 2040, I assure you that we will still be cooking on modern stoves, eating from plates, using spoons and forks, eating the same foods, and lving in the same homes. Highways, parks, trees, flowers, grass, insects, animals, and rivers and streams will be the same. You may have a computer to program the heat setting of your home or vacuum dust particles from the air. But you will not have Rosie the robot to answer your doorbell or clean your dirty clothes or sweep the floor for you. You will not be flying around in a Jetson mobile. And it is extremely unlikely that cybernetics will have any other function than for medical purposes.
Sorry to be the one to tell you. I like to dream of the future as much as anyone. But don't have high hopes that your world will look much different than it looks today. It will only lead to disappointment.

irobot battery Irobot does not honor its warranties on It's Dirt Dog robotic cleaner?
What options do I have or is it
a case of buyer beware and I am SOL
I purchased a brand new irobot dirt dog robotic cleaner on Ebay. Seems to work for a while then stops dead in it's tracks after 10-15mins for no reason. If I power it off, then on. it works for another 10-15 mins and stops again. The battery is fully charged and the machine was well cleaned but that did not fix this problem. Could there be an internal timer or a case of thermal overload? or Gremlins
I spoke with irobot Tech service and tried all they advised to do but it did not take care of it
I asked if they could fix it under the warrantee but they refused because the Ebay seller was not on their authorised sellers list and suggested I contact the seller However the seller
has a 7 day return policy which I have exceeded by 2 weeks so no help there
Quess Irobot has gone to the dogs

robotic floor vacuum Will the Roomba Discover be able to clean my large room?
The floor consists of 8' x 8' blocks of pebbled concrete stone seperated by 2"x4" spacers. The highest gap in between the concrete blocks is roughly 1/4". My fear is that the vaccuum will sense these gaps and stop without moving on to the next concrete block. I also fear that the ruggedness of the texture of the concrete partitions will be to much for the vaccuum to accomplish a clean sweep. Think of the floor as patio type concrete mixed with pebbles no greater then one inch. The concrete surface is sealed with an epoxy concrete paint.
Any personal experience with Robotic vacuums would be great. Thanks.
PS. The total area is 2000 square feet.
I LOVE my roomba!! I do not think that it will have a problem with the 1/4 inch difference. It has a rotating brush and 'sweeper tool' to get into crevices on the floor. I have hardwood, carpeting, tile and epv foam (children's playmat)flooring. It has no problem transitioning between all different types. It really cleans well.. just have to get in to the corners with a crevice tool. I have found it to be such a timesaver and the customer service is terrific as well.
